Song: A Masque For The Queen / Renaissance
Reviewer: Rich Goldin
Positive Comments: The chordal figures contained within the composition are pleasant to listen to. The song structure develops well and the chord structures cycle nicely. Acoustic guitar songs are interesting to immerse oneself in, as I find them fascinating and I am always on the watch for new instrumental and acoustic guitar/vocal works.
Constructive Comments: My constructive comments are relating to the technical aspects of the work and are in no way meant to be negative. They are based on my professional experience and personal taste. The recording is “noisy” i.e., I can hear a significant amount of white noise, whether that is tape hiss or room noise, it is still a distraction. Investment in a DAW (digital audio workstation), even a free one like Kristal Audio Engine, and a set of quality microphones (Shure SM-57s are excellent for this application) would help. Often times, acoustic players overlook the utilization of melody in relation to chordal structures. This is evident in the work. The application of melodic movement against chords takes a great deal of effort and thought. However, as you improve in the craft, you can start to apply this type of performance. I would also categorize this song as “folk” and not classical. Keep at it.
