Positive Comments: There is a great deal to like about this song. I am not going to waste time blowing smoke up your butt and stroke your ego telling you all the good things cause that does you no good. So even though my constructive comments will be long, be assured that it is not me trying to tear you down. I am going to be intentionally nitpicky so that I am of some use to you.
Constructive Comments: If there is one thing I really did not like about this song, it was that guitar in the beginning that had that weird sound to it like it was playing with loose strings. I thought that sound of that guitar that goes throughout the song is the only thing that prevents this song from being a 5 song.I did not think you needed to add so much effects to the vocals. The voice is good enough to be a cleaner vocal track instead of adding the effects and reverb people normally do to help prop up a lesser voice. You got a good voice and sing with energy and passion, own it.I did notice that you had an issue with the vocal track wanting to peak. It sounded to me like you addressed the issue by inserting breaks into the track and then bumping down the volume of the peaking sections. I actually find this to be a common issue for people who aren’t bad singers on this site. I am going to tell you what I tell everyone when I come across this. As a human being, when you hit those parts where you are putting something extra into it and really hitting it, the natural tendency is to lean forward into the microphone. Which as you can imagine makes the peaking that can occur worse. A little trick is, that when you get to those points in the song where you know you are adding more umphf, you take one foot and take almost a full stride back with just that one foot. That way even though you are going to naturally lean in, you will still be further away from the mic, and it will help the finished mix. It doesn’t mean you won’t still have to tweak things, but it will mean you will have to tweak less once you get the hang of it.Lastly, I really liked your voice, but I don’t think stylistically this is the right sound to accompany your voice. yes you belong in the rock genre, but I don’t think soft rock songs like these are where your sweet spot is. I think you need to go to a grittier grungier harder place in rock death metal and acid rock and super black eyeshadow is too far, but I think a more robust place would be better. Your voice I would say is very comparable with Melissa Ethridge ( I think I spelled that right) even though I do not particularly care for her music her voice has similar characteristics to yours. The only song of hers I know is that one “come to my window” (I think that is the title) but if you compare that song to this song, while the genre is pretty much the same, her song is in a little grittier harder rocking place, and I think that is where you need to gravitate towards, maybe even a little past her to produce your best stuff.Oh and please fix that guitar, I would have added this to one of my playlists if not for that damn guitar, but I will make a point of checking our your other work.
