Song: Smiley Faces
Reviewer: Kate Carpenter
Positive Comments: Laden with special effects, the multiple sounds and voices of this song reflect the conflicted message of the singer. Obviously in love, but frustrated, he seems like he’s trying so hard to progress. A creative palette of sounds, pauses and simplified spots in the mix really add to the drama. This song has a strong element of rap in it. I can tell that you worked really hard on this in the studio. The lead vocal is beautifully sung.
Constructive Comments: The beginning was SO conflicted I thought I was mistakenly hearing two different tracks. Maybe you OVERdid this, production-wise. Sometimes less is more and simple is better. Take this with a grain of salt because I am reviewing a song way far away from my genre and comfort zone, and I am 64.
