The first verse provides a good opening to the story, excellent word pictures with dinner waiting on the stove, a warm hug. The vocal is about as passion and emotion-filled as it gets. You can feel the loneliness in the vocalist&#8217;s voice.  Background vocals augment this.  <\/p>\n<p><b>Constructive Comments: <\/b>My guess is that this is a vintage (rough) recording.  The song only has 2 verses. It could be improved with a bridge and third verse.  &#8220;Why&#8217;d they take you away?&#8221;  I was left wondering, who were &#8220;they&#8221;? Did they take her off to jail?  Ah, no I don&#8217;t think so.  Was she unfaithful and left him?  Nope?  Baker acted?  Sickness, tragic accidental death?  Who knows? Fill me in. I&#8217;m dying of curiosity. This song does not have a country feel, so I would sing &#8220;you&#8221; instead of &#8220;ya&#8221;.  Also you make reference to night and in the same and next line you say day and rhyme day with today.
