Praising The Lord by Randal Dunkle

Randal Dunkle

Broadjam Artist: Randal Dunkle
Song: Praising The Lord

Reviewer: Jeff Roberts

Positive Comments: Nice harmonic work!! Of course this is Randal singing in faith. Interesting story lyrics that bring a lot of gospel events, which makes it more complex and interesting than a lot of Christian Rock.

Constructive Comments: The vocals are too dry &close and much louder than the rest of the tracks, so it gives a bit of a voiceover effect. If you push the vocals back in level, record a bit farther from the mic, and add some reverb it will let the vocal sit in the mix better.

Positive Comments: Way slinky minor Blues feel here with some Jazz elements. Love the drums and atmospheric keys. There’s some really hot and interesting lead work that’s kinda Gary Moore school.

Constructive Comments: I’d take the flange of the guitar–to my ears it’s too harsh and effect driven. But keep that overdrive in. A cleaner tone would really let this sing. Check out some Robben Ford for a reference to exactly what I’m gettin at!

Constructive Comments: I can’t really think of anything other than updating the drums. Keep it smooth like it is just another drum kit. And that’s nit pickin’. LOL. Excellent song overall.

Positive Comments: I was pleasantly surprised with much of this recording as you can tell by Excellent and near Excellent marks. Im far more eager to explain my criticism as that’s what stands in the way of my judging this a knockout. The overall sound is strong and very listenable. Even though the track is extremely repetitive, it wears well. It’s mesmerizing. Thats meant as a positive.

Constructive Comments: The problem for me with this recording can be corrected easily. I had to work to understand the lyric. Even then I missed 90% of it. The snippets that I got suggest to me the subject matter and probably the lyric is very good. I, however, can’t be sure. Does the singer have a good voice? I don’t care if the emotion is communicated. I, again must say don’t know. And like other aspects, the bits I could get, sounds like the singer can and maybe did, deliver a performance worthy of the song. I would love to get my engineer on this. I think it could be a real gem.

Positive Comments: This, for me, is a tough one. I really enjoyed the musicianship. Good solos, interesting arrangement and strong back up. Also recorded well. The song… see constructive comments.

Constructive Comments: Not much of a song. I understand that this type of recording is not so much about the song but more a lyric to prevent the recording from being a amorphous instrumental. The title is good. It’s the key line of the song. I think the delivery is ok but ok doesn’t get it. The lyric is sparse. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but it must be delivered convincingly… unfortunately its not. I don’t think the vocalist is a bad singe. One can’t tell much about that aspect from this song. I don’t think, however, this vocalist is the best for this song.
