Positive Comments: Great intro that calls both Tom Petty’s Free Fallin’ and Allmans’ Melissa to mind–then you bring vocals in right on cue. Clean and powerful vocals that are given lots of space and hold up to the challenge! Incredibly pleasing vocal timbre and a very convincing emotional performance. This kinda song could help a lot of guys get married if it were playing in the truck. This is one of the best voices out there. Great bridge that really lifts.

Constructive Comments: beautiful eye–heyes I’d recommend not making two syllables out of ‘eyes’ I think it’s awkward and weak. Great as is but I’d love to hear what it’d sound like with a chord walk up on “then I saw you” I think that would kill. “It’s just something…inside of me” is good but not great, when you really want great at that moment.I’m not a hitmaker in Nashville but I’d really like to work on the lyrics/phrasing and chord structure with you to see if I could make this better. It’s freakin’ awesome regardless. Nice work!

Old Man by Marc S. Pate

Song: Old Man

Reviewer: Jeff Roberts

Positive Comments: Of course the first moments call Cowgirl in the Sand to mind…and you turn it around by using an “Old Man” hook. Really good sound and mood are created in the first few bars. The voice is commanding and really pleasing. I like the upward changes in the chorus. This has a very strong late 70’s feel. Super tasty guitar break. This calls to mind Neil Young of course but also Seals & Crofts, Jesse Winchester, Steven Stills, Rodriguez, and Bob Welch. And anyone who likes those will love this. Super work here!

Constructive Comments: Like what? lol

Positive Comments: Great driving beat with an urgent tambourine and chord progression that gives a tragic mood. I can’t quite understand the lyrics but the melody and phrasing work so well I know the lyrics are good. This sounds like Billy Corgan / Smashing Pumpkins if he were a better songwriters.

Constructive Comments: There’s so much chorus on the guitar it makes the sound very thin. The guitar break at 1:57 totally doesn’t fit the song at first but then what you end up with *does* give a strong bridge. The finish of the tune doesn’t match the vibe you’ve created. I think there are a number of things to fix and glue together better but there is a great song here and some really cool things going on. Overall I think the sound is too trebly and the vocal diction needs to be clearer. Some sweet harmony vocals would be a great addition.

Zero Gravity by Mitch Siegal

Song: Zero Gravity

Reviewer: Jeff Roberts

Positive Comments: Just listened to this tune by Mitch the other day and already gave it five stars!! Great melancholy mood from the get go with the minor 7 > dom9 almost Bossa Nova chord changes. Vocals have a bit of a Sting vibe. The first lifting chords in the chorus are a super change up. LOVE the first guitar break–that’s so tasty I can’t stand it–the solo, tone, changes and mood. Those backup vocals aren’t obvious on the first listen, and damn they are cool. Outstanding work Mitch!

Constructive Comments: I’d like to year your voice in a last raspy, strained take. We know you can sing so well so this is just a question of desired approach. The Sting reference kinda says it–I don’t like Sting (lol). I’d like to hear you do this with a smoother more detached vocal–it would be a slight change, what you have is really really good as is. What about doing the chords on a nylon string for a smooth slinky feel. Check out Luisa Maita for an example (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlwcTs35Z1k). And listen to some of her studio work–she and band are fantastic, and this song has just the vibe that I can hear yours with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5E9doyHXWs Your song could have this deep melancholy and mystery.
