Positive Comments: Nice piece. Loved the syncopated feel in this. Nicely orchestrated and performed. It was very relaxing to sit back and listen to this. I enjoyed this very much. Thank you.

Constructive Comments: I think maybe bringing up your mid levels just a bit would help, but that’s just my ears. Other than that, I have no critique. Well done.

Just Another Day by Marc S. Pate

Positive Comments: I think the recording of this song is very good. There are a lot of good bits throughout. The positiveness of the song lyrics and instrumentation make me think it is very marketable. Nice guitar hook too.

Constructive Comments: The song has a lot of potential. I think the instrumentation of the guitar hook is very good and pronounced. However, I feel the vocal hook is not. Maybe more work needed there. The vocal is pitchy at times. Sometimes it sounds like the there is note dissonance in the instrumentation but sometimes it may just be the vocal singing flat. Also, the notes sung sound to be in a straight line (same note). A little variety will really help.

Dark Forest Walk by Warren Hein

Positive Comments: This tune is full of dramatic content and invokes a sense of darkness and danger as well. This would make great music for a film or part of a film where something truly dramatic was happening or about to occur. I liked the deep sound and the interesting use of instrumentation. It is not a tune to listen to at bedtime as it is quite frightening in nature, in parts.

Constructive Comments: I can’t really criticise it because if it was written to be thought provoking and full of high drama then it achieves this in abundance. I did like the dark instrumentation running through the bass. There were enough lighter moments in the melody to have some relief from the dramatic moments. This tune is quite clever in its composition as it has quite a lot of originality in its make up too.

The Leaves by HarryBudini

Positive Comments: This is a really cool dark lullaby from Harry Budini. It’s both soothing and haunting with an eerie Nick Cave vibe. That guitar progression is very interesting and totally reinforces the twisted, complex mood of the tune. I could hear this in a Tim Burton movie soundtrack. Nice work Harry!

Constructive Comments: What about doing the vocal Leonard Cohen style, more spoken than sung?

Positive Comments: A mellow track reminiscent of 70’s soft rock kinda songs. The singer has a nice voice. I though I heard just a pinch of Stevie Nicks in her sound.

Constructive Comments: I am pretty sure this is a home recording and the sound of the overall track reminded me of my old zoom R24 porta studio from a few years ago. The recording outside of the vocals is a bit cloudy sounding and drenched in chorus. I think a little eq would help there

Positive Comments: It’s a really catchy song…very strong. The melody is compelling. It’s very hooky. I like the vocals very much and the use of backing/block vocals is excellent. The vocal improvs work really well. Strong lyric idea for a pop song. The song has a real hypnotic feel. The structure of the song is excellent.

Constructive Comments: It’s a genuinely lovely song. I’ve marked down the instrumentation and arrangement because I feel the backing track lacks light and shade. For example the bass would have more impact if it kicked at the first chorus and I can imagine more builds and fades in the backing. Having said all that I like the song and having listened to it three times I’m singing it back to myself as I type.

Positive Comments: It’s a beautiful song. The vocal is heavenly..very compelling. I like the ‘Can I do You Right’ concept. The chord progression is lovely. The song has a wonderful warm dreamy feel. The song delivers a real romantic atmosphere.

Constructive Comments: Lyrically I think that there are too many repetitions of the words ‘time’ and ‘right’. Perhaps you could have explored some rhymes or half-rhymes to introduce some new lyrical elements, just to mix it up a bit. I like the guitar arrangement but maybe the song could have started with a ‘clean’ acoustic guitar and the echo patch could have been introduced later to build the dream effect. I hope I’m not being too critical because it is very strong.

Positive Comments: I liked the drama in the tune right from the beginning and I felt like I was going on a journey into something thrilling or dramatic. The tune is quite a unique sound and I liked the way it developed into a rolling almost tumbling around sound. It would make a great sound track for a film about discovery or going forth.

Constructive Comments: The only reason it did not get excellent all the way through was because I was waiting for a big climax but the music rather stayed more steady. I couldn’t really fault the uniqueness of the music but only marked it down slightly for total originality. I do think it would do well in a film if it was used as filler music during a certain scene if people were on the move or something. Thought it was great for that.
